Aloha,
We are pleased to offer you the opportunity to request a web account on the CIS department's IS2 server.
Account creation normally takes about 50 seconds. If you make your request now, your position in line will be number 1. Your account should then be created in about 1 minutes. You will be sent an email to your BYUH preferred email address when your account has been created.
Your account will have the following specifics. (Accounts with other settings are possible. See Don Colton, Scott Mikolyski, or one of the CIS faculty members to set up something else.)
username: (the same username you used to request this account) password: (we will make up a password for you) domain name: (username).is2.byuh.edu
Accounts are authorized and maintained on a month-to-month basis. This helps us manage and clean up abandoned accounts more easily. Each month you must perform a simple action to keep your account running. (Basically, we have you click a link to tell us you are still using the account.) When your account is first created, its initial lifespan is set to just a few days. You will receive an email message at your preferred email address. That message will tell you how to confirm your account. If you ignore those instructions, perhaps because you did not receive them, your account will be automatically suspended in a few days. By following those instructions, your account will remain active for the rest of this current month. At the start of each month you will receive a similar message allowing you to keep the account active for an additional month.
IMPORTANT: If you do not receive the email mentioned above within a few minutes of the expected time, please verify your email address. If the address is correct, please check your spam filter settings for that account. If the address is incorrect, please visit http://(username).is2.byuh.edu/cpanel to tell is2 your correct address. Also please have BYUH fix your email address.
Please read the account rules to know what you are allowed to do and what you should not do. It includes information about business use and passwords. Your initial password will be picked for you but you can change it to something else if you wish. Your initial email contact address is the same as your BYUH preferred email address, but you can change it to something else if you wish.
As soon as your account is created (when you receive your email), anyone on the Internet should be able to visit it at http://(username).is2.byuh.edu/ or http://www.(username).is2.byuh.edu/.
You will also be able to access your account's control panel at http://(username).is2.byuh.edu/cpanel. At this control panel, you can update your contact address and your password. You can also create personal email addresses and mailing lists for yourself and your friends. You can also create MYSQL databases.
SSH and FTP and a web upload/download interface are enabled for your new account. You can use it to insert content into your account. You also will have shell access, which means that you can actually type and run linux commands directly.
